Part of the reason for obesity in the american society is due to an over abundance of food. diabetes. a greater variety of food. the high cost of vegetables.

We have that first of all, diabetes is positively correlated with obesity but in most cases obesity can lead to diabetes, not the inverse; so diabetes cannot be a reason for obesity. A greater variety of foods means that there are more meal choices that lead to a balanced diet and hence this cannot contribute either. The high cost of vegetables can be a factor but this is not the case in general and there are always alternatives to get nutrients. THe correct answer is the first one, overabundance of food; this leads to caloric intakes that are not balanced and people get more energy than they need/use. This energy is stored as fat and hence leads to obesity.
