The US Navy trained its 2,000 pilots in the University of Georgia in Athens, and hundreds of thousands of enlisted men made their way to Hunter Field and Camp Gordon. Up to 13,000 civilians were employed in Robin's Field. Defense contractors moved to Georgia and provided jobs to civilians and helped the state in its economic recovery.
