The Civil rights movement inspired other groups like immigrant farm workers during the 1960's. After seeing the success of the Montgomery Bus Boycott, members of the Chicano movement used the same tactic. The boycott of grapes and the strike by Mexican-American labors resulted in these laborers receiving better pay and working conditions.

The rights guaranteed in the constitution took a long time to apply to everyone due to state laws and loopholes. For example, the 15th amendment was supposed to give all men, regardless of color, the ability to vote. To counter this, southern states made laws like poll taxes and the grandfather clause, which made it extremely difficult for African-American citizens to vote. It was not until the Civil Rights Act of 1964, the Voting Rights Act of 1965, and the 24th amendment that the Southern states got rid of these policies.
