How did both sides in the american civil war meet the demand for large amounts of manpower?

Draft--both sides began a draft to recruit men into the war. 

Drafts were used on both sides of the war to recruit men. There were ways out of the draft if you had enough money so many of the soldiers were from the lower classes.
