According to david m kennedy what was one economic efffect of the depression on women

Apparently, according to this Professor, the government created Rosie the Riveter to urge women to leave their "traditional domestic employments" and enter the workforce. He goes on to say that women during the time, should be viewed as Wendy the Welder; because it cost too much to train women to rivet, and teaching them to weld was much less expensive. Kennedy states that women "persisted in their traditional functions during the war." Meaning that women didn't really "work" but rather stayed home, and continued their daily lives as "moms." He supports his idea by saying that about 9%, during the war, worked for wages;and at the end of the war it went up to 12%. The Professor ends saying that women were mostly stay-at-home mom's.
