Why were the tools of the bronze age stronger than those of earlier times?

Before the Bronze Age all the tools/weapons were made of stone or wood, the problem with this is that it is incredibly easy to chip wood and even stone. Which in turn shows low durability on it. Metal though is rather difficult to chip.
