What did the soviet union stand to gain if it controlled afghanistan

If the Soviet Union won control in Afghanistan, they would be able to pretty much spread communist influence almost everywhere. Also, Afghanistan does have a lot of oil, which the Soviet Union could put to use.

that is because lower interest rates allowed people to work harder to make money. it multiplied like that and now the uno(not the game) is very strong.
