What issues did president johnson move forward on in 1964

Lyndon Johnson was Vice President of the United States under John F. Kennedy from January 20, 1961 to November 22, 1963. He became the 36th President of the United States following Kennedy's assassination.

In 1960, he stood as presidential candidate in the primary, but was beaten by John F. Kennedy. Kennedy nominated Johnson as vice president, and together they beat Richard M. Nixon and Henry Cabot Lodge Jr. in the November presidential election.

Johnson reached the presidency aboard Air Force One in Dallas after it was confirmed that Kennedy was dead. Up until the 1964 election, he implemented Kennedy's Civil Rights Act and a tax change that had been stranded in Congress. He carried out a number of key social bills under the heading "The Great Society".

He was re-elected in 1964. He won over Republican candidate Barry Goldwater with the most votes a president has received in US history.
