The higher class of the Shang Dynasty were the kings and their family. Immediately after the rulers. there were the Nobles who were the highest class just after the royal families on power. The Nobles supported the King with weapons and soldiers. The Nobles lived a life of luxury.

The next class was the Priest. They had a direct relationship with the nobles and the King court.

The next class was the Artisans. They worked with materials such as jade, bronze, and pottery. The artisans made the weapons that were used by the Shang army.

At the very bottom level were the framers and slaves. If the owner died, the slaves were sacrificed. The Shang Dynasty had the belief was that slaves should continue to serve their masters after dead.  The farmers grew wheat, fruit, barley and vegetables. Most of the food was for the Nobels.
