Main Language was Old Latin dates back to the 14th century.   An Icon is a picture depicting its nature in value and also symbolic to the little children in order to understand , like in a storybook fashion, who was who, what did the ally look like in those clothes. Like in the The Manger scene at Christmas.  Citizens of the Roman period really needed to paint sculptures of figures relative that time period as well as to show honor and acceptance to the Founding Church of the day, which then was then Roman Catholic.  The last war of' the day', was won and fought since the beginning of the Holy days.  It was mesmeric and provided a sense of security along with devotion to have these.  Also it just was the ICONIC AGE. The citizens needed to pass onto generations of many diversitys the importance of Art. Also, very importantly, this brought about the passion of Renisaunce era
