He managed to gain control of North Africa by defeating the Vandal Kingdom, thus recapturing Carthage. Defeated the Ostrogoth Kingdom and restored Italia, Sicily, and Dalmatia, as well as taking control over the south of the Iberian Peninsula and creating the province of Spania. Justinian also managed to gain control over a people and territory that have never been under Roman rule, by defeating the Tzani in the eastern part of the Black Sea.
