Then in July, others took place in Birmingham, Chicago, New York, Milwaukee, Minneapolis, New Britain (Connecticut), Rochester, Plainfield (New Jersey) and especially in Newark (New Jersey). These riots led US President Lyndon B. Johnson to form the Kerner Commission to investigate their causes.
