We also know that the development of these technologies is beneficial to the development of humanity. A clear example is the pharmacological induistria, which needs to invest heavily in research to develop new drugs capable of treating or even curing diseases which man has previously succumbed to.

In this context, ensuring legal certainty to protect such investments is an important way of stimulating development. The US already has a sophisticated patent promotion system.
