Vote should not be mandatory. This is just a silly idea. Nothing that is mandatory works well. And it would force people who are not informed or educated to get out of their houses and help to decide the future of a city, state or the whole country without even knowing or caring about what is going on.

The reality of things is pretty simple. When something is mandatory, people resent it. There's no way you would not have protesting, complaints or just people not going. And how would we punish people for not voting? I mean, voting being option makes it a right. If you must vote, though, it's not a right, it's an obligation.

If voting becomes an obligation, it is straight up the opposite of freedom. Obligations by the government that can punish us for not doing them is a limitation to our freedom we we all should decide weather we want to vote or not.

Besides, in countries that have mandatory voting, like in Brazil, people just come up with silly ways to protest. They run as super heroes and make jokes about the State and their laws. In the end, it doesn't make democracy any better, it just motivates people to make fun of it and get angry about it.

The fate of a nation should be decided for those who care about the fate of the Nation. To those who don't care or don't even feel like they're informed enough to decide such a thing, they should just stay home.
