Before WW1, the Ottoman Empire was mostly handling civil unrest and immense diplomatic tension amongst itself, in order to create a tyrannical sense of order, military action was taken. It was common, but things like this did happen.

They defended against Russian and British troops, however, when Russia dropped out of the war due to the increasing tension of the Bolshevik Uprising, the Ottomans were facing the British, with immense loses, and only a handful of victories, especially towards the end of the war/
