The legacy of the Roman government system is a complex subject, as there are many factors at play when defining its influence on future societies.

It's crucial to realize how big the contrast between the Roman Empire and the Roman Republic is, and how interwined they are at the same time in regards to the progression of their politics.

The Republic brought and evolution towards freedom that to this day represents a positive model for institutional structure as it integrated popular will to political stability, yet the Senate often acted like a hereditary aristocracy holding the practical resources to deprive its citizens from their rights.
