To what extent was franklin roosevelt’s overwhelming victory in the 1932 presidential election a reflection of his own ideas for change?

Franklin Roosevelt was running for his reelection and many things were at stake, for example, getting the US out of The Depression. Because of that economic failure, Americans had a lack of confidence and low self-esteem. Roosevelt knew that and created “Fireside Chats” that was a 30 evening series of radio addresses that boosted confidence back into citizens. He connected with people through those chats and by touring the country giving speeches and handshakes. Also, the New Deal - relief, recovery and reform - plan and the end of Prohibition helped him win the race.

Another great factor helped Roosevelt win the race, it was that Herbert Hoover - who as a millionaire - believed that people should earn their living by hard work, without any help from the government, this was the contrary that people at that time needed after facing The Great Depression.

This is why Franklin’s Roosevelt win was partially Herbert Hoover’s fault, but mostly it reflected his own ideas and personality.
