When president Jackson took office there was a widespread idea that he would fire everyone and replace them with people more in line with his ideas. All these fears were put to rest when Jackson only fired and replaced a very small percentage of people.

Jackson thought that by prolonging a stay in office more was lost than actually gained. He also believed that corruption was caused by having public servants in office for many years causing abuses related to power and misuse of public resources.

President Andrew Jackson was credited with creating what was known as the "principle of rotation in office". This principle meant that public officials or public servants should only serve for a specific and short period of time to avoid corruption and ineptitude.
