Was poe considered a romantic or transcendentalist?

Edgar Allan Poe was an American writer born in Massachusetts in 1809, he died in 1849. He was a Romantic writer who hated Trascendentalism. However, it is important to state that his work is not the Romantic typical one; instead he can be considered to be of Dark Romanticism which is a subgenre in literature whose main characteristic is gloomy atmosphere in which the presence of devil exert influence on the lives of characters.
