The Israelite s would have remained in captivity as slaves to the Egyptians for

a longer time.

The Israelite s came to Egypt during the time of Joseph ( who was the 11th son of Jacob that was sold into slavery by his other brothers to Potiphar in Egypt ) because of Famine that had ravaged their land and they needed somewhere to buy foods. but with Joseph as part of the ruling/governing council he asked them to stay back in Egypt.
