What do the accounts by mussis and the bull of pope clement vi have in common? how did different groups of people react to the plague?

Gabriele de Mussis was a lawyer of Piancenza who is belived to have arrived in Europe in the ship transporting the Great Plague. In his accounts, he states as well as Pope Clement VI, that the plague was a punishment from God in his divine wrath. Pope Clement VI issued a bull to grant remission of sins to all who died of the plague.

As healers could not find an explanation to the plague, nor could the goverment, people started to blame different groups to be cause of the deaths. Among them were pilgrims, foreigners, beggars, etc. Lepers and people with skin diseases were exterminated throughout Europe. Jews were also blamed and Pope Clement VI issued an other bull to condem the violence against them and said all who blamed Jews of the plague were "seduced by that liar, the Devil."

Others looked for an explanation in astrological forces, earthquakes and conspiracy.
