Which role best describes the president’s duties as head of the executive branch of government?

The President is both the head of state and head of government of the United States of America, and Commander-in-Chief of the armed forces.  The President is responsible for the execution and enforcement of the laws created by Congress. Other executive agencies such as the CIA are not part of the Cabinet, but are under the authority of the President. It is also responsibility of the President to appoint the heads of more than 50 independent federal commissions, such as the Securities and Exchange Commission, as well as ambassadors and other federal offices. The immediate staff of the President is composed by entities such as the Office of Management and Budget and the  Executive Office of the President (EOP). Regarding the legislation, the President is responsible to sign laws or to veto bills enacted by Congress, although a voting is able to override a veto made by the President.

The Executive responsibilities of the President is to conduct diplomacy and talks with other nations and negotiate treaties, which must also be approved by the Senate. Executive orders may also be issued by the President and the power to extend pardons and clemencies is also a part the President's duties.

There are also a lot of other small responsibilities, especially regarding meeting and State of The Union sessions.

The US federal government is divided into three parts or branches: the Legislative branch (represented by the Senate and House of Representatives), the Judicial branch (represented by Supreme Court and lower Courts), and the Executive branch, (represented by the President and about 5,000,000 workers).

Regarding the Executive branch, all its power is vested in the President of the United State, whose duties and responsibilities include; the execution and enforcement of the laws created by Congress, appointing federal judges and ambassadors, as well as the heads the Cabinet and federal agencies, such as the Federal Reserve Board or the Securities and Exchange Commission and signing legislation into law or to veto bills enacted by Congress.

In addition, it is also a responsibility of the president, as head of the executive branch of government, conducting diplomacy with other nations, as well as negotiates and sign treaties with them.  

Considering all the President’s duties, briefly described above, it could be said that the role that best describes him is head of state and head of government of the United States of America.
