The United State federal government and the local government has three branches: executive, legislative, and judicial.

1. Executive

Federal government: Consisting of the President, Vice President, Cabinet, and most federal agencies.Local government: Consisting of the Governor (directly elected by the people) and other leaders such as the lieutenant governor, the attorney general, the secretary of state, and auditors and commissioners.

2. Legislative

Federal government: Congress, who has two chambers: House of Representatives and SenateLocal government: Most of the states has two chambers the Senate and the House of Representatives (called Assembly or the House of Delegates by some states). Nebraska is the only state that only has one chamber.

3. Judicial

Federal government: Supreme Court, made up of 9 members (a Chief Justice and eight Associate Justices) and Federal Courts and Judicial Agencies.Local government:  The state Supreme Court, that unlike the federal government court, holds no trials. It hears appeals from lower-level state courts.
