On Aprli 24, 1916 in Dublin and a few other places in Ireland a group of irish nacionalists rebelled against British rule. The rebel group was defeated by the British army, the leaders were executed and over 3000 people arrested. Those killings and arrests made irish people turn against the British rule too, tunring them away from the idea of Home Rule and seeking a fully indepentend Ireland.

The independent republic of Ireland was proclaimed until 1949, after splits in ideas that lead to a civil war and different conflicts.

As you can see, the Easter Rising was the beggining of the idea of an indepentent Ireland.
