In the Iranian hostage crisis, 52 Americans were held hostages in a seizure by the Iranian militants at the U.S Embassy in Tehran.President’s Carters attempt to rescue them failed and hostages were taken to hideouts in the country.This was taken as a major failure.

In 1981 elections Reagan won with many votes defeating Carter, and during his inauguration , the hostages that were in captive for 444 days were released.
