Iraq formerly known as Mesopotamia is a country in southwestern Asia that encompasses most of the northwest of the mountain range of Zagros, the eastern part of the desert of Syria and the northern desert of Arabia. It has a narrow strip of coastline in the Persian Gulf. There are two major rivers: the Tigris and the Euphrates.
