Roman religion was adapted from the Greek religion.

Roman religion consisted, as the Greek, more in a set of cults than in a body of doctrines. There were two kinds of cults: the private cult, which closely linked the family, and the public one, which stimulated patriotism and respect for the State.

The Roman pantheon was created influenced by the Greek one. Their gods were almost the same, although the Romans changed their names. The cult of the dead led to deification of the kings, and later to the emperors.

Both were contractual religions, because the prayers and offerings were made as a pact with the gods, that is, to receive favors, and if the believer understood that the deity did not fulfill him, he ceased to worship him.
