After the French-Indian war the British king increased the taxes and imposed additional taxes on the American colonies. After the war,In 1765 Parliament passed the Quartering Act that said the colonists needed to find or pay for lodging for British soldiers  stationed in America.

Moreover, the British were deeply troubled with the debt during the war. So, the British king was searching to find way collect money for paying the debt. He thought he had right to impose tax on the American colonies for the military expense as they are protecting the American colonies from foreign threat.He also thought, they fought for the American colonies against the France.
