What historical event changed napoleon's identity from that of a conqueror to that of a failure?

Napoleon Bonaparte was a French military and political leader who became well known for his victories during the French Revolution and the subsequent wars. However, at the Battle of Waterloo in Belgium, Bonaparte was defeated by the Seventh Coalition. This ended his reign and the first French Empire.
