The economic and political movements of farmers marks from in 1800's marks from 1865. After Civil war, in 1865 American farmers started to protest against their misfortunes, declining career and degrading economic and political status. This movement continued from 1867 to 1896 which can be classified under three periods: Grange; Alliance; Populist.

Oliver H Kelly, an agricultural official founded the secret Order of patron of Husbandry (Grange) in 1867 fight the economic decline and make progress in the social needs of the farm life. The alliance of farmers was created in 1880's through which the agricultural education, cooperative marketing were supported.

The members of Alliance lobbied government for banking regulations. Populist or People’s Party was joined to stand against the dominating Republic and Democratic parties in 1890's. The farmers’ movement remains significant in the history and marks to be the ‘menace of privilege’.

The American farmers have been expressing their dissatisfaction for many years, especially after the civil war. During this period, there was acute political unrest that led to their unstable farming practices. However, their concerns were varied because they were deteriorating in the economic and political status. Their defining feature was to join so that they can have a mutual gain. So this is the reason why they decided to form cooperatives political parties and interest groups that helped them in protecting against the decrease of their fortunes and political power.

1) checks and balances- this idea is implemented in the constitution to ensure that no one branch of the federal government gains too much power. for example, the legislative branch(congress) can approve a bill that will then be sent to the executive branch (president). if the president does not like the bill or thinks that it violates the rights of citizens, he/she can veto the bill. vetoing the bill stops the bill from becoming a law. this check on power ensures that congress makes laws that do not violate the rights of citizens.

2) anti-federalists do not want to ratify the constitution unless it includes a bill of rights. the anti-federalists are worried that the constitution gives too much power to the federal government. having a strong central government caused problems when the us was still part of great britain. this is why the anti-federalists are fearful of this type of system.

3) federalists want a new constitution passed because it will fix america's weak political structure. before the us constitution is implemented, the constitution being used is known as the articles of confederation. this constitution has an extremely weak central government, allowing for disunity among the states.
