were skilled soldiers.
they wanted more spanish speaking families, like the isleños, fo carry on
spanish traditions in the colony
they knew the isleños were from the caribbean and experienced in
establishing a successful colony
they took pity on the isleños people because had been expelled from
spain and were in desperate need of a new place to settle.
