Part 1 debate
are trampoline parks
too dangerous?
ountless kids will visit trampoline parks
this year. are you one of them? if so,
experts worry that you might be bouncing
into trouble. in 2017, nearly 18,000 people
landed in the emergency room after getting
injured at trampoline parks. accidents often
happen when more than one kid jumps on a
trampoline at the same time.
"parks have rules against this, but it still
happens all the time," warns dr. michele labotz
of the american academy of pediatrics.
but others say there's no need to stop
jumping. some people point out that any
physical activity can be risky. for example, in
2017, about five times more kids were injured
while riding bikes than at trampoline parks.
"when following the rules, jumping at a
trampoline park can be a healthy, fun
experience," says bethany evans from the
international association of trampoline parks.

i enjoyed going to trampoline
parks until i learned how
dangerous they can be. kids
have suffered broken bones and
serious spinal and head injuries,
in the past few years, at least six
people have died from trampoline park injuries.
even if you're following the rules, other kids
might not be. plus, bouncing on trampolines is
unpredictable, and at many parks they're
connected. that can lead to trouble, especially
when bigger kids are jumping near smaller kids.
a few hours of fun just isn't worth the risk!
bouncing at a trampoline
park is a great way for kids to
get exercise. it gets your heart
pumping and you
develop balance and
strengthen your muscles.
trampoline parks have rules to keep kids safe.
they limit the number of jumpers in each area
and don't allow crazy stunts and flips. plus, most
parks have padded walls and safety nets.
you can get hurt doing just about any activity.
whether you're playing baseball, swimming, or
using a trampoline, the key is to follow the rules.
