The American Revolution which took place from 1763 to 1783, the southern phase of the revolution was from 1778 to 1781. During this phase of the war is characterised by the bloody civil war between the civilians. In the beginning, the British were relaying on the loyalists as they believed that they were strongest in south.  

Initially British succeeded in the South but soon situation changed and there was use of guerrilla forces for hit and run warfare. Ultimately, British were defeated in south as their strategy miserably failed.
