What was the u. s. military goal in the pacific. (wwii)

They had to defeat the Japanese Military and they also wanted to occupy Japan to help them become a democratic style government. They also had to resolve the issues of Japan's needs for all kinds of natural resources and oil. They needed to free POWs and get the Japanese to get out of China. and me i think we did it cause they had attacked us in peril harbor and wanted some sort of revenge.
