American shipping and sugar trade suffered in Cuba due to the Spanish dominance. the 'reconcentrado' policy which was introduced in Cuba made many Cubans to get forcefully shifted to the concentration camps where they died out of disease and starvation. All this made US to intervene and hence declared war on Spain and emerged victorious.
