The American government was largely funded by tariffs on imported goods. Beginning with President Wilson, income taxes began to replace tariffs as a source of income for the government. Do you think present income taxes should be lowered or even eliminated in favor of tariffs? If that happened, all imported goods would cost much more. Is one approach better, or should there be a balance between the two sources of income? Which system you would prefer if you could choose between the two?
