GREEK
The Greek system of education has contributed to all areas of the subject taught in schools like Philosophy, Science, Mathematics, Law, Technology, etc. It also includes various activities carried out in society. Greek's educational system gave Greece an Identity that would never be forgotten and thereby influencing modern-day education. Its relevance to the Nigerian educational system can be seen in the study of Philosophy. For instance, Athena's principles on education are that every individual in a society should have a good grasp of philosophy to enable them to govern society and ensure justice is done at all times. In Science, Robert Hook propounded the cell theory. Plato's and Socrates' theories have greatly contributed to the Nigerian educational system. The Greek system of education helped in developing modern education in various countries. Greece's influence gave rise to the equality of both genders in education. Thereby affording the same opportunity to both genders to get an education. Greece had for long been an advocate of female education. Nigeria is a patriarchal society which means only males are entitled to an education. In the Northern part of Nigeria, education isn't valued as females are married off at a young age instead of getting an education. In the 19th century, the influence of Greece on the Nigerian educational system gained strong grounds and recently, women are holding high positions in government.According to history, the Olympic games were created by the Greeks. In Ancient Greece, it was a period that involved sporting competition having competitors from other states. It was also a period marked to honour Zeus. The games include marathon race, long jump, javelin, boxing, etc. Although the Olympic games have never been held in Nigeria, it has been involved in the games held internationally.
ROMAN
The Roman System has had a great impact on the world's educational system, inclusive of the Nigerian educational system. Its impact is enormous and the following points are worthy of note;
Most English words as we know them today derive their provenance from Latin which is the official language of the Roman Empire. The Judicial system tells more of the beauty of Latin in Nigerian's educational system. Most legal maxim has its roots in Roman Latin. Also, the alphabet used today was born out of Rome.The Roman system brought about the development of art through the introduction of extraordinary works of art such as poetry, Shakespearean Literature, etc. It is notable for the innovation brought to the educational structure as it brought about the establishment of creche and preschool classes for children.The Roman system is also remarkable for promoting and propagating the importance and value of education by the establishment of schools and rewards for teaching. Before the Roman system, there was little or no form of formal schools, it was however branded and developed into school as we know them.
