Hoover and Roosevelt responded to the Great Depression.

The depression started before President Herbert Hoover took office in 1929. The people think that President Hoover's policies for the economic crises in the country were not up to mark. People also believe that he continued the economic crisis without stopping it. His attempts of individualism and volunteerism failed to end the Depression.Franklin Delano Roosevelt carries out public works programs to help the economy.In some way, both Presidents tried to help people during the Great Depression.The methods used by them were different as Roosevelt introduce a “new deal” for the American people.

Therefore we can conclude that their actions did impact the period of economic depression.

Hoover was a Republican and seemed to favor businesses and free market principles in comparison with Franklin D. Roosevelt who was a Democrat.

Despite how he is often painted as the do nothing, laissez faire president in comparison to FDR, Hoover did show some willingness to tap the resources of the federal government to address the financial crisis that was growing in the 1930s. He cut taxes and tried to implement counter-cyclical measures using public works spending in order to try to bring about more employment and recovery. He also pressured the larger corporations from implementing massive layoffs that would have led to more hardship for many Americans. He encouraged the companies to continue investing in new facilities and equipment to keep healthy production levels. FDR would carry out further public works programs and reforms that were meant to help stimulate the economy and to help the people most affected with social programs.
