What did the British armies do In the American Revolution?

Up until the Revolutionary War, the British army had only fought European-style warfare on an open battlefield. In addition, the British army was fighting to protect a vast empire that was spread out across the world. As a result, the army was spread very thin, which reduced its effectiveness. They also started the Boston massacre. They played a very large role. The attrition of constant fighting, the inability of the Royal Navy to decisively defeat the French Navy, and the withdrawal of the majority of British forces from North America in 1778 ultimately led to the British army's defeat. The surrender of Cornwallis's army at Yorktown in 1781 allowed the Whig opposition to gain a majority in parliament, and British operations were brought to an end.
