1) This article shows how music can evoke nationalism and pride in a nation, bringing people together. It will it only be directed towards sub-groups, such as women, but since music is a universal instrument, it can be directed towards all people. Is this instance, this song is raising up the women of America (as seen in the last three lines), though there are implications that it brings America as a whole together too. 2) A few stanzas about women today could be like “loud and proud, we speak as one | equal under the blazing sun | the days of sexism have long been done | In empowerment, we have won. Lines like this can express the empowerment of women in today’s world, as well as the impact they have in their communities compared to how insignificant their power used to be. 3) Women probably viewed this song as being extremely empowering, since they lived in a time where women were inferior to men. This song emphasizes the importance of women in America, and therefore would be a “saving grace” in a sexist world.
