Philip II of Macedon was a Macedonian king (359-336), who started the conquest of Greece (347 BC) financed by the gold mines of the Pangeu region, which with the final submission (356 BC) transformed Macedonia into the greatest power in the ancient Greece and laid the foundations for the Hellenic expansion, carried out by his son Alexander III, Alexander the Great.
