Why did they call the Great Plains region a Dust Bowl

During that time period the land was used to farm was often left very dry and sand-like because farmers wouldn't change their crops every season so the dirt and such would easily get picked up by the wind so a type of sandstorm would occur and they would happen often due to how people farmed at that time.
