1. The English Civil War occurred in the 1600s between the year 1642-1651 when King Charles the First started an army against the wishes of those in Parliament to deal with the rebellion in Ireland. The King during the civil war demanded the arrest of five members of the Parliament.

The war continued between the supporters or King Charles the First and the members on Parliament.

The war ended with the members of Parliament emerging victorious, King Charles the First was executed by beheading on the grounds of treason while his son King Charles the Second fled to France in exile.

2. The Glorious Revolution

The Glorious Revolution occurred in the year 1688. The King during that time was King James the Second. He was a Catholic but he had a daughter who was a Protestant and she was the rightful heir.

King James the Second gave freedom to the Catholics without consulting the members of Parliament by suspending all penal laws against them and appointing Catholic Officers. This led to friction between the King and members of Parliament.

When the King had his son, he decided to raise him Catholic and this created the fear that a Catholic dynasty would rule England.

The Dutch leader William of Orange invaded England and King James the Second attempted the first time to escape but he was captured, he later succeeded the second time and fled to France where he died in exile.

William and King James II daughter Mary who was a Protestant got married and they signed the Bill of Rights into law which permitted Freedom of speech and free elections in the Parliament. It also forbade the British Monarchy from being Catholic.
