Federal agencies were created to oversee specific areas or aspects of the government's responsibility to its citizens. Federal agencies also do specific jobs that the government has promised to perform. As the role of government and the needs of people and society have changed, new agencies have been established.

You will choose one federal agency to discuss in an informative essay. You should do outside research and write an essay on the structure of the agency and its function.

I chose EPA, plz help! Outline instructions below. This is what I have so far:

One agency that will be discussed in this essay is the Environmental Protection Agency or EPA.

Let's start with explaining what the EPA is, and why it was founded; the Environmental Protection Agency is an independent agency of the United States federal government for environmental protection. It was formed some fifteen years ago, when America had just awakened to the seriousness of its environmental pollution problem. Creation of EPA was part of the response to growing public concern and a grass roots movement to "do something" about the deteriorating conditions of water, air, and land (EPA History (1970-1985)). EPA truly came into being when President Nixon enacted the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) in 1970; the bill forms the Council on Environmental Quality (CEQ) to advise the President on the environment and review federal agencies' Environmental Impact Statements, required for projects that would affect the environment (EPA History Timeline)."
