Why are legends and myths used to explain the founding of Rome

The national epic of mythical Rome, the Aeneid of Virgil, tells the story of how Trojan prince Aeneas came to Italy. The Aeneid was written under Augustus, who claimed ancestry through Julius Caesar and his mother Venus.

Because its usually how they pass down their story and it shows their history to the modern people and thats the only way they can explain how they found Rome
