The United States government had a very positive opinion about joining the United Nations, simply because the United States was perhaps the country that contributed the most for its foundation.

The United Nations was born out of the Atlantic Charter, a treaty between the U.S. and the U.K. that allied the two countries against the axis powers (Nazi Germany, Fascist Italy, and Imperial Japan) during world war II.

The idea of the United Nations was to be a global alliance with the main goal of working for peace and stability. The United States contributed also with the creation of its economic arm at the Bretton Woods Conference, where the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank where created.

Because of the important role of the United States in the formation of the UN, the central headquarters of the UN were built in New York City.
