This cartoon, which depicts industrialists including Vanderbilt and Gould, was published in a German American newspaper in the late 1800s. The title reads “Monopoly Millionaires Dividing the Country.”
A political cartoon shows four caricatures of well known industrialists of the late 1800s, including Jay Gould and William Vanderbilt. The men sit on a piece of land as if it is a game board. Some have large knives with which they are carving up the land. One man throws dice as if he is playing a game. He is surrounded by tiny buildings that appear to be factories.
