The main reason Texans in the Western and Northern regions of Texas did not want to secede was that they did not rely on enslaved labor as much as the other regions.

This prompted most Texans to secede from the Union in order to protect their economy. The Western and Northern regions however, had diversified away from needing enslaved labor and so had little motivation to secede.
