Why did the South more than the North grow more and more dependent on slavery?

The South was more dependent on slaves because they supported slavery. They were accustomed to having others doing the work for them. On the contrary, the people living in the North supported the abolishment of slavery so they were used to doing their own work and being dependent on themselves.
