Why was Korea split into two nations?

a. Following World War 2, Japan lost it's colonies, and the U. S. & Soviet Union both wanted control over some of the newly freed lands.
b. Koreans voted to split the nation in two because of political beliefs following World War 2.
c. After World War 2, Japan gave up Korea, on the condition that the word powers would share it.
